Competition to name the Village Project

Competition to name the Village Project

It is intended to being work on the new Deaf Village Project early in 2011. Up to now the Project has
been called the Deaf Village Project or the Village Project. CIDP is now inviting the Deaf community
and Deaf organisations to suggest an alternative name for the Village.

The name chosen should reflect the activities that will be located in the Village Phases one, two and
three, namely Administration, Heritage, Social, Sports, Education and Residential. The prize will be a
voucher for €300 and there will also be a second prize of €100.

The names will be reviewed by a panel comprising an independent PR consultant Jim Walsh, CIDP
CEO Liam O’Dwyer, Eileen Coffey, Maggie Owens and Sean Herlihy. The panel will decide on the best two names and will award the prizes. The Panel will then send their recommendations to the CIDP Board.

The final decision on the name for the Village will be referred back to the Deaf community /
organisations at an open meeting in January or February 2011 and the name to be used will be
reached by consensus.

Entries for the competition will close on the 14th of January 2011 and should be sent to:

Nuala Byrne
Catholic Institute for Deaf People
40 Lower Drumcondra Road
Dublin 9
Fax:    01-8825541

There will also be a competition box in the DDA lounge. There is no limit to the number of entries per
person that can be sent in but each entry must have the name and address of the person sending in
the entry or else it will not be accepted.

Please note that the final name selected for use by the Deaf community / organisations and CIDP may
turn out to be different to the name selected by the Competition Panel of Judges their brief is to
decide on the name they feel suits the Project best and they will award the prizes to the two best
names in their view. The final say on the name itself will have to be left to CIDP and the Deaf
community together.
